Candi Thonney, owner, Enrolled Agent, NTPI Fellow, Certifying Acceptance Agent
Candi has been preparing federal income tax returns professionally since 1990. She opened Affordable Income Tax Service in 1992 after working and teaching for H&R Block. Prior to becoming an income tax preparer, she owned and operated Northwest Custom Knitting, selling knitting machines and custom knitted garments.
While working for H&R Block, Candi taught their basic income tax preparation class in addition to taking their advanced classes. Between 1993 and 1998 she was an AARP Tax Aide program instructor, teaching volunteers how to prepare simple income tax returns for low-income and elderly clients. She has taught childcare provider recordkeeping for Family Childcare Assoc. Services, Catholic Family & Child Services, and Washington State Tax Consultants Columbia Basin Chapter.
In 1998 Candi passed the IRS’s Enrolled Agent’s two-day exam entitling her to the E.A. designation. An Enrolled Agent (E.A.) is a federally authorized tax practitioner who has technical expertise in the field of taxation and who is empowered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before all administrative levels of the Internal Revenue Service for audits, collections, and appeals.
She is a member in good standing of National Society of Tax Professionals, National Association of Enrolled Agents, and National Association of Tax Professionals. Candi is a NTPI Fellow (National Tax Practice Institute), having completed their three-year program in Representation and Practice before the IRS.

Harriet Crawford
Harriet worked with Candi at the local H&R Block before the two of them decided to open AITS in 1992. Harriet was a beauty shop owner in Bellingham for over 30 years before retiring to Moses Lake. In 1990 she began working as an AARP volunteer income tax preparer and became the head instructor of the local AARP program. For several years, while working as a professional income tax preparer, she and Candi continued to teach the AARP class. While in Bellingham, and here in Grant County, Harriet and her husband have owned as many as 50 residential rental units at one time.
